Dunwark Arena is a level set in a a low fantasy mountain capital city, based on the simple format of Counter Strike's classic fy_iceworld. This level was designed with free-for-all or arcade game modes like gun game in mind.
The basic layout is four rectangles split by lanes for the player to travel through. The key change I made to the fy_iceworld layout was to add a vertical layer to the level, as well as adding more pathways up and down.
On the left and right side, the map's boundaries are a large stone city wall. On the top and bottom are more houses, with streets and doors inaccessible. Limiting the scope of the level to the "arena."
As well as being able to go inside the center houses, there's scaffolding outside to give players more options to navigate the level. To set up an ambush, or escape a pursuer. During playtesting, this layout led to some fun situations. Like often being ambushed from the balconies or through the windows; however, players can't remain stationary for long. Due to the compact map size and variety of paths, hiding spots are quickly discovered.
The interiors of the houses were furnished with a couple free asset packs from the Unity store.
The streets offer little cover and are exposed to many windows and balconies, making players tend to seek shelter or higher ground.
The side streets are blocked by carts and goods left out in the open in the evening.
The other sides of the level are blocked off by the gate to the city district and a fenced alley on the other end.
